Who AM I ?

SIMON OIRY

Hello, I’m Simon Oiry, a postdoctoral researcher and former Ph.D. student at Nantes University, associated with the CNR-ISMAR in Italy. My research focuses on mapping intertidal vegetation using remote sensing techniques, combining satellite, drone, and LiDAR data to better understand coastal ecosystems under natural and anthropogenic pressures.

During my Ph.D., I explored the use of drones to monitor seagrass meadows and macroalgae, offering a unique perspective and greatly improving the spatial and temporal resolution of habitat mapping. This integration of traditional ecological methods with cutting-edge technology has broadened my approach and deepened my understanding of dynamic intertidal environments.

Currently, I continue to build on this work by investigating the impacts of heatwaves on coastal habitats, using remote sensing as a key tool to track environmental change. I’m excited to share the results of these studies and highlight how science and technology together can help protect vulnerable ecosystems.
